Congratulations to Emma Vanderpool MC'17
 

Emma Vanderpool, MC’17, of Frankfort, Illinois was recently awarded a highly-coveted National Latin Honor Society Scholarship from the National Junior Classical League (www.njcl.org). To be eligible for this scholarship an applicant must they must have been a member in good standing of the NJCL for at least three years; be a member of the NJCL Latin Honor Society; be planning to enter college in the upcoming academic year; be planning to major in and teach Latin, Greek or the Classics; have superior grades in school and write an essay on what honor and excellence mean. In her essay wrote the following: “By constantly trying to outdo ourselves we almost always end up surpassing ourselves and becoming excellent and we rather often end up outperforming others as a side effect of our efforts. Though the shine of medals and trophies cannot compare to the feeling of marching off the field, having given our best performance yet, and having achieved excellence.” In announcing this award Sherry Jankowski, Latin Teacher-The Meadows School-Las Vegas, NV and NJCL Programs and Scholastic Services Chair, wrote that “Over 40 students from across the nation applied for NJCL and NLHS Scholarships this year; the committee found [Emma’s] transcript, service to JCL [Junior Classical League], and love of learning particularly commendable!” Emma attended Lincoln Way East High School and is matriculating at Monmouth College, where she plans to study Latin and, eventually, to become a Latin teacher.
