Monmouth College Classics Students Rename Award in Honor of Beloved Professor

Members of Gamma Omicron chapter of Eta Sigma Phi, the national classics honorary, recently voted to rename the Eta Sigma Phi Prize for Excellence in Latin in honor of Virginia K. Hellenga, who has taught Latin at Monmouth College for fifteen years. Prof. Hellenga is retiring at the end of this semester. 

The first recipient of the renamed award, announced at Honors Convocation on Tuesday, April 20, 2010, was graduating senior Robert Grafsgaard, who studied elementaryLatin with Prof. Hellenga.
