Description: This oddly shaped fragment of a relief is too small to be specifically identified. It shows the head in profile of a youth with a band wound around his curly hair and tied in back with the ends trailing. He faces a triangular, curved shape that might be, but probably is not, a scimitar blade. The dealer calls him an Apollo, but there is no real sign to make that specific an identification. The piece derives from the first century B.C.E., the era of Julius Caesar; perhaps it derives its cachet from that fact.
