The 2005 meeting of
the Illinois Classical Conference will be held at Loyola
Academy in Wilmette Friday, October 7,
through Sunday, October 9, 2005.
The first session (on Friday evening)
will feature Bruce Williams of the Oriental Institute doing an
archaeological presentation on the southern frontier/Red Sea
area in the late Roman Empire.
Saturday we shall have a discussion about making classical
studies appealing to minority students, an hour of oral Latin
with Jim Chochola, Valerie Michele Ronnick's talk on African
American classicists (see
http://www.langlab.wayne.edu/mvr/black_classicists/), a
discussion about teaching Vergil and preparing for the A.P.
Vergil exam, and a banquet talk by Prof. David Wray of the
University of Chicago. Sunday morning there will be a Latin
mass followed by an opportunity to sample the riches of the
foreign language computer lab at Loyola and a discussion of
pedagogical issues.
Anyone who wants to be sure to receive the registration
materials should join by I.C.C. by contacting Liz Skoryi. I
should also be happy to answer questions about the conference
