Local Attractions.  Of interest to classicists is the Spurlock Museum. The museum's permanent galleries feature the cultures of Ancient Mediterranean, Africa, Europe, the Americas, Asia and Oceania.  The Krannert Art Museum is also a “must-see.”  The collection holds more than eight thousand works of art, ranging in date from the fourth millennium  B.C. to the present, representing the cultures of Africa, Asic, the Americas and Europe.  We also suggest that participants visit the Krannert Center for the Performing Arts, one of America’s leading university-based performing arts centers, designed by Max Abramowitz.  We also strongly recommend a visit to the Arboretum and the Japan House and Gardens which are also located on the U of I campus [call: (217)-244-9934].
