MC's Gamma Omicron Chapter The following members of Gamma Omicron Chapter of Eta Sigma Phi, the National Classics Honorary Society, recently attended the 72nd Annual Convention at Dickinson College in Carlisle, Pennsylvania in March, 2000: Erin Brown '03, Heidi Carlson '03, Zina B. Lewis '01, Dawn McRoberts '03, Jennifer Mitten '02, Leigh Piercy '03, and faculty advisor Tom Sienkewicz. At the convention the chapter was awarded a $100 prize for the best project promoting the study of the Classics in the local community. The chapter received this award for its presentations of the bilingual Grinch (in Latin and English) at Monmouth High School and at a convention of the Illinois State Junior Classical League. Classics major Zina B. Lewis was also awarded a prize, "prima inter pares," for the best paper read at the convention. Zina's paper, “The Classical Eve in her Struggle for Autonomy and the Quest for Sapientia: An Analysis of Xenia, Wisdom, and Wifehood in the Aeneid and Paradise Lost,” is an excerpt from her research last summer as an ACM Minority Scholar.
