The Monmouth College Department of Classics is pleased to
announce the two 2011 recipients of the Latin Performance Scholarship.

Timothy Morris is
a 2011 graduate of Southern Baptist Educational Center in
Southaven, Mississippi, where he studied Latin with Jenny
Wrigley, Julie Zammit,
and Joann Haughton. Timothy plans to study both Latin and
ancient Greek at Monmouth College.

Emmery Schuytema
is a 2011 graduate of Monmouth-Roseville High School in
Monmouth, Illinois, where she studied Latin with Brian Tibbetts.
Emmery plans to study Latin at Monmouth College and hopes to
teach Latin in high school. |
The Latin Performance Scholarship is designed for both majors
and non-majors in Latin and offers up to $2000.00 per year.
Applicants for the scholarship are expected to demonstrate some
competence in comprehending and translating Latin with the aid
of a dictionary and asked to prepare a short passage (c.30-50
lines) in Latin prose or poetry to discuss with faculty and
students at an audition on the Monmouth College campus.
Recipients do not have to major or minor in Latin to be maintain
their his award, but are expected to successfully complete at
least one course in Latin per semester. The scholarship is
renewable for four years. |
