2016 FOX WRITING CONTEST AT MONMOUTH COLLEGE
The Department of Classics
at Monmouth College, Monmouth, Illinois, is proud to announce the
winners of the thirtieth annual Bernice L. Fox Classics Writing Contest.
The topic of this year's contest, open to all high school students, was
“The Trial of Aeneas: Imagine that Aeneas is on trial for abandonment of
Dido of Carthage in a modern American courtroom. Give your closing
remarks to the jury as either the prosecutor or defense attorney.” This
year there were 73 entries from 18 schools in 13 states. Each entrant
receives a certificate of participation from Monmouth College.
The winner of a $250 cash
award is Alex Frank of Portland High School in Portland, Maine. Alex’s
teachers are Mrs. Michelle Tucci and Mr. Phil Thibault.
Honorable mentions (listed
randomly) were awarded to the following students: Katelynn Dombrowski of

School, Midlothian, VA (Teacher: Ms. Donna Dollings); Christian Rosado
of Bayonne High School, Bayonne, NJ (Teacher: Mr. Craig Jacobs); Hannah
Marier of Marist, Atlanta, GA (Teacher Mf. Thomas Marier); and Dylan
Echlin of Memphis University School, Memphis, TN (Teacher: Mr. Ryan
