2012 FOX WRITING CONTEST The Department of Classics at Monmouth College, Monmouth, Illinois, is proud to announce the winners of the twenty-eighth annual Bernice L. Fox Classics Writing Contest. The topic of this year's contest, open to all high school students, was to write a proposal or a pilot episode for a TV series based on Classical Mythology but set in the United States in the 21st century. This year there were 111 entries from 36 schools in 15 states. Each entrant receives a certificate of participation from Monmouth College. The winner of a $250 cash award is Luke Zabroske of Trinity High School in Camp Hill, Pennsylvania. Jack is a student of Ms. Patricia Hay. Honorable mentions (listed randomly by school) were awarded to the following seven students: Wes Gobar of Riverbend High School, Fredericksburg, VA (Teacher: Mr. Mark Keith); Alex Seidler of Joliet West Township High School, Joliet, IL (Teacher: Mr. Robert Rutherford); Veronika Spieker of St. Scholastica Academy, Chicago, IL (Teacher: Mrs. Angela Fackler); James A. Grover III of Thornton Academy, Saco, MA (Teacher: Mrs. Cody); Jessica Lynn Chapman of James River High School, Midlothian, VA (Teacher: Mrs. Donna Dollings); Peter Eisenhauer of Conrad Weiser Area High School, Robesonia, PA (Teacher: Ms. Diane Rurode); and Tejas Reddy of Montgomery Bell Academy, Nashville, TN (Teacher: Ms. Sarah Ellery). This essay contest honors Bernice L. Fox who taught English, Latin and Greek at Monmouth College from 1947 to 1981 and who also served for some time as chair of the Department of Classics. Dr. Fox spent much of her life in promoting the study of Latin in Illinois high schools. The college welcomes suggestions for future contest topics. Please contact Dr. Thomas J.
