Hero Pattern for Gwenhwyfar (Guinevere)

Gwenhwyfar (Guinevere) was the daughter of King Leodengranz (2) and King Pellinore's Sister (1), her mother is never named in the book. She grew up in the nunnery on the isle of Glastonbury (8). We know very little about her childhood (9). When she is old enough to marry she is sent off to Arthur (10). She marries Arthur (12) and becomes Queen (13). The court of King Arthur reigns successfully for twenty years or so (14). Then very late in her reign, the knights, urged by Mordred, find proof that she and Lancelot are lovers. She loses favor with her subjects (16). Lancelot escapes with her (17). She tells him she can not be the cause of a war and he brings her back to the isle of Glastonbury. She lives the rest of her life as a nun and dies of old age. Arthur places a monument on the top of a hill, next to the one for his mother, Igraine. Many of the young girls schooled in the nunnery and others flock to pay homage to her at the monument (22).
